BWX Technologies Inc. has announced plans to expand its Cambridge, Ont., nuclear commercial manufacturing plant. The site’s increased footprint will enable greater capacity to support ongoing and anticipated customers’ investments in small modular reactors and traditional large-scale nuclear and advanced reactors.
The expansion, estimated to cost $36.3 million, will increase the facility’s footprint 25% to 280,000 sq. ft. Additionally, over the next few years, the company will invest nearly $22 million in advanced manufacturing equipment. In total, the project is expected to create more than 200 long-term jobs for skilled workers.
Construction adjacent to the existing plant is scheduled to begin in Q3 2024, with no interruption to ongoing operations at the current facility. Completion is expected in mid 2026.
